John Joseph McDonald
RMS’s history began in Victoria during the 1930’s when the original company founder and forefather, John Joseph McDonald, worked with WW1 soldiers to build sections of the now famous Great Ocean Road. He went onto work with the landholders to construct dams and access roads.
During the JMS period Richard McDonald gained many years of experience in civil construction and contract negotiation, with particular attention to mine rehabilitation, tailings, dam construction and expansion, access roads and hardstand areas.
In November 2007 JMS became RMS Engineering and Construction.
The East Timor operations were established by JMS in 1999, and purchased by RMS following the 2007 restructure. RMS East Timor is a preferred supplier to the Australian Defence Force and United Peacekeeping Force in providing a diverse range of construction and engineering projects.
RMS Vanuatu was established in 2016 following award of the Port Vila Urban Development Project, a two year $18.5m AUD Contract to rehabilitate the city after the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam in 2015.
